ISU and Northeast Iowa Community College partner on admissions

Iowa State University and Northeast Iowa Community College have joined forces to make it more convenient for Northeast Iowa students who want to earn an associate degree and transfer to ISU to earn their four-year degree. Northeast Iowa President Penelope Wills and ISU President Gregory Geoffroy announced the joint admission program at a news conference today at NICC's Calmar campus.

Siren testing scheduled for Monday, Feb. 25

A site test for an outdoor siren system with speaker capabilities will take place on campus Monday, Feb. 25, between 1 and 3 p.m. The test will last one to two minutes.

ISU alum led ship in mission to blast dead spy satellite

Capt. Randall Hendrickson, a 1983 Iowa State University graduate in political science and naval science, is the commander of the U.S. Navy cruiser that blasted a disabled spy satellite above the Pacific Ocean.

ISU student named to All-USA Academic Second Team by USA Today

Although he's a straight "A" student in mechanical engineering, it was Chris Deal's work as executive co-director of Iowa State University's 2007 Dance Marathon that earned him a spot on USA Today's 2008 All-USA Academic Second Team. USA Today announced the three academic teams of the nation's most outstanding undergraduates today.

Fashion show tickets on sale

Tickets for ISU's annual Textiles and Clothing Fashion Show are on sale now. The 26th annual show is Friday, April 25, at Stephens Auditorium. Tickets (available through Ticketmaster or at the Stephens box office) are $15 for students and $20 for all others. Discounts are available for groups of six or more.

ISU horticulture student earns national intern award

Eric Pitzen, a senior horticulture major at ISU, recently was awarded the Greenhouse Product News/Nexus Intern Scholarship, annually awarded to the national intern of the year for the greenhouse industry. As recipient of the award, Pitzen was featured in the cover story of the January 2008 issue of Greenhouse Product News magazine.

Author Farai Chideya to speak at Iowa State Feb. 25

Award-winning author Farai Chideya will speak at 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, in the Memorial Union Sun Room at ISU. She began her career as a researcher and reporter for Newsweek magazine and is currently the host of National Public Radio's "News & Notes."
