Intelligent construction practices developed for roads also apply to levee construction
Iowa State University researchers are using high-tech
construction practices to evaluate the earthworks that make
roadbeds and building foundations. They say emerging
technologies and instruments -- including a device that quickly
subjects earthwork samples to thousands of load tests -- can
help build better roads and foundations. They say the
technologies could also be used to build and test river
levees.
