Iowa State sociologist, migration researcher assesses the current crisis in Somalia
Abdi Kusow (above) has been painfully aware of the horrific
images of starving children and violence caused by famine and
political unrest in Somalia. A native of the African nation,
Kusow is now an associate professor of sociology at Iowa State,
where he is a researcher and author on Somalia and the Somali
Diaspora. He urges the international community to not only
consider providing immediate relief, but to also make efforts
to resolve the political crisis in Somalia.
Thomas Leslie is first Pickard Chilton Professor at Iowa State College of Design
Thomas Leslie, an internationally recognized expert on the history of technology and architecture, has been named the first holder of the Pickard Chilton Professorship in Architecture in the College of Design. Leslie is an award-winning teacher and author, and previously was architect with one of the world's leading design firms. He will be recognized in a campus ceremony Friday, Sept. 9.
