Gold Star Hall Ceremony to honor three fallen heroes who attended Iowa State
Three former ISU students will be honored for their military service, and for making the ultimate sacrifice, during the annual Gold Star Hall Ceremony on Nov. 6. Family and friends of the honorees will attend the ceremony, which will highlight each veteran’s life story.

Iowa Cyber Hub enlists ‘Cybersecurity Ambassadors’ to help their communities
The Iowa Cyber Hub is enlisting "a legion of cyber guardians" to help friends, families, businesses and communities learn basic cybersecurity practices that can prevent online threats. The program launches from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union on the Iowa State campus. The public is invited.

Iowa State researchers are developing mathematical models to simulate soybean aphid population dynamics over a growing season with a wide array of stressors, including droughts and floods. Researchers blow whistle on forensic science method
If forensic experts have access to a suspect’s gun, they can compare the microscopic markings from discarded shell casings with those found at a crime scene. Finding and reporting a mismatch can help free the innocent, just as a match can incriminate the guilty. But new research reveals mismatches are more likely than matches to be reported as “inconclusive” in cartridge-case comparisons.
