Thousands of ISU students returning to Ames for class; others study from distance
While more than 27,000 students are heading to Ames this fall, more and more Iowa State students are finding that going to class is just one way to get their education.

State fund advances swine vaccine research, six other Iowa State projects
The State Board of Regents has approved $679,663 in competitive
grants from the state's Grow Iowa Values Fund, a state
economic development program. The grants will support seven new
projects with the goal of developing technologies with
commercial potential and supporting the growth of companies
using those technologies.

ISU researchers find possible treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy
Spinal Muscular Atrophy affects 1 in 6,000 to 1 in 10,000 children born every year. One in 40 people are carriers of the disease -- they don't have the symptoms, but could pass the disease to their children. Ravindra Singh, associate professor in biomedical sciences at Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, has made a huge discovery on the road to curing the disease.
