College of Business preparing more ethical leaders through new, improved programs
ISU's College of Business is committing resources to some new and revised business ethics programs in an effort to better prepare its students to be more responsible business leaders.
Iowa State researchers develop technology for early detection of viruses
Iowa State University researchers have developed a technology that can detect a single molecule of the human papillomavirus within a cell. The discovery by Edward Yeung and two of his doctoral students builds on about 10 years of work trying to detect single molecules.
Iowa State's Anex featured in green video
Robert Anex, an Iowa State associate professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, is featured in a new video by the YERT team. That's Mark Dixon, Ben Evans and Julie Dingman Evans who are spending a year on YourEnvironmentalRoadTrip.com. They're visiting every state looking for signs of environmental sustainability. During their stop in Iowa, Anex told them about the beauty of perennial grasses as an alternative to ethanol from corn grain.
Five former student names to be added to MU war memorial
Iowa State will honor five former students who died in the Iraq or Vietnam wars during a Veterans Day ceremony on Monday, Nov. 12. The Gold Star Hall ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Great Hall, Memorial Union. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
ISU's Coats selected as fellow of the Entomological Society of America
Joel Coats, ISU professor of entomology, will be named a fellow at the Entomological Society of America annual meeting in December.
Presidential hopefuls to speak at bioeconomy outlook conference
Presidential hopefuls John Edwards (D-NC), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) will participate in a forum at Iowa State's Biobased Industry Outlook Conference in Ames on Monday evening, Nov. 5.
Reimans' holiday gift will keep butterfly wing open until Dec. 31
A gift from Roy and Bobbi Reiman will keep the Reiman Gardens' Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing open until Dec. 31, and allow the Gardens to install its annual holiday show. The Gardens recently announced the butterfly wing would be closed from Nov. 1 to April 1, 2008. Reiman Gardens will be open daily, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 31.

NIACC, ISU announce admissions partnership
Iowa State University and North Iowa Area Community College are making it more convenient for NIACC students who want to earn a bachelor's degree to transfer to ISU. NIACC President Michael Morrison and ISU President Gregory Geoffroy announced a joint admission program at a news conference on Oct. 25 in Mason City.
New ISU Nutrition and Wellness Research Center Open House planned for Nov. 9
Iowa State's new Nutrition and Wellness Research Center (NWRC), located in Building 6 of ISU's Research Park, will conduct an open house on Friday, Nov. 9, from 3-7 p.m.
National Science Foundation study: Iowa State a technology licensing powerhouse
A study prepared with support from the National Science Foundation calls Iowa State University a "licensing powerhouse" for its work to transfer technologies developed on campus to businesses. In fiscal year 2005, in fact, the Iowa State University Research Foundation ranked second nationally in the number of technology licenses it executed.
Christopher Hitchens to speak Oct. 31
Author, commentator and National Book Award nominee Christopher Hitchens will speak at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the Memorial Union Sun Room. A columnist for Vanity Fair, The Nation and Slate, and a former foreign correspondent, Hitchens is the author of several books. His lecture is part of the World Affairs Series.
ISU to host community college leadership conference in Kansas City Oct. 28-30
ISU's Community College Leadership Program (CCLP) has organized the inaugural "Education Practice in Leadership: Transforming Community Colleges Conference" at the Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo., Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 28-30.

Alexander King has been named the new director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University.
ISU MBA program makes Aspen Institute's "Global 100" ranking of business schools
The MBA program from Iowa State University's College of Business is ranked 81st in the "Global 100" ranking by The Aspen Institute Center for Business Education, released this month in its "Beyond Grey Pinstripes 2007-2008" publication.

TV, newspaper and Internet ads will attempt to convince people that they can do something about global warming. ISU Assistant Professor Jay Newell says the bandwagon approach is the way to go in this case -- more effective than ads designed to boost brand image.
