WOI Radio to go live with new southern Iowa station
FM 97.9 on Graceland University campus in Lamoni will go live at 5:29 p.m., Feb. 18. The station is the fifth in the WOI Radio Group, a consortium of Iowa public radio stations licensed to Iowa State. Kevin Klose, National Public Radio president, will be in Lamoni to bring the station on air.

The search for the first dean of Iowa State's College of Human Sciences is under way. Two current ISU colleges (Family and Consumer Sciences and Education) will be combined into the new College of Human Sciences on July 1.

ISU alumnus Sean McLaughlin spoke with Alumni Assn. director Jeff Johnson (right) during the weather segment of NBC's "Today Show" Feb. 13. McLaughlin fills in for Al Roker on "The Today Show" and is MSNBC's weather anchor. Johnson and other Alumni Assn. staff were in New York City for several alumni events.

Doug Gentile, ISU assistant professor of psychology, says games with scenarios ripped from the headlines could have a "profoundly different effect ... for a generation now growing up under the threat of terrorism and at war. It's not going to be an exercise in nostalgia."
Study: Students see video games as harmless

ISU psychology professor Craig Anderson is among the top scholars studying video game violence. He says a recent study at the University of Maryland confirms his sense that young video game players consider themselves immune to the mayhem depicted in today's technologically sophisticated, gory games. "Any of us who do this kind of research certainly face the wrath of the ubiquitous 14-year-old who doesn't believe there's anything harmful in anything that they do," Anderson said.
