AMES, Iowa -- Award-winning author Farai Chideya will speak at 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, in the Memorial Union Sun Room at Iowa State University. The event is free and open to the public.
Chideya began her career as a researcher and reporter for Newsweek magazine and is currently the host of National Public Radio's "News & Notes." She has been a correspondent for ABC News, contributed commentaries to CNN, Fox, MSNBC and BET, and has anchored "Pure Oxygen" on the Oxygen women's channel. She is the author of three books including "Don't Believe the Hype: Fighting Cultural Misinformation About African-Americans" and "The Color of Our Future." Her most recent book, "Trust: Reaching the 100 Million Missing Voters," looks at why so many Americans don't participate in the political system and discusses how to address this issue.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Md., Chideya graduated from Harvard University and was the founder of PopandPolitics.com, an online journal for younger Americans. She sas also published articles in newspapers and magazines including Time, The Los Angeles Times Magazine, The New York Times, Spin, Vibe, and O.
