Nov 13, 2020
Mohamed Shogar came to the U.S. from Sudan right when he finished high school. Shogar's family had always considered education a top priority, and he felt that he had the best educational opportunities in America. But his time here was difficult in the beginning. Shogar didn't speak english, so he had to learn the language while starting his college career at Kirkwood Community College. When Shogar came to Iowa State, he initially struggled in his classes. But he received a lot of support, soon excelling in school and setting him up to attend medical school after graduation. Now Shogar wants to be a doctor, so that he can provide better health care experiences that his family didn't always get growing up in Sudan.
