Growing up in an agriculture community in Mexico, Dr. Hugo Ramirez developed a love for farm animals. His father, a faculty member at a university in Mexico, also taught him and his siblings the value of an education. So when Ramirez came to the United States, he knew he wanted to pursue an advanced degree studying animals. He eventually discovered a passion for nutrition, despite initially not loving chemistry. He now conducts research at Iowa State's dairy research farm, and works closely with dairy producers around the state to help improve feed efficiency in dairy cows.
