ISU researcher hopes maize genome research will lead to better crops
Aug 5, 2021
Building on the work of previous ISU research, Matt Hufford and his team recently sequenced dozens of varieties of corn genomes. In doing this, they discovered the immense diversity of corn at the genetic level. In some cases, the genetic structure was different. In others, genes that are present in some varieties were not present in others. This could affect things like disease resistance, and could hopefully lead to better crop yields
