FAMILY FRIENDLY WORKPLACES TOPIC OF ISU CONFERENCE

AMES, Iowa -- A conference focusing on workplace strategies to help employees meet family needs will be at Iowa State University on April 7.

The conference, "Family Friendly Workplaces: Strategies for Academic and Business Communities," will be from 9 a.m.- 3:45 p.m. in the Memorial Union. A $50 registration fee is required that includes lunch. Advanced registration is suggested, but reservations will be taken at the door, outside of the South Ballroom in the Memorial Union. Topics to be examined at the conference include development of family friendly work environments, successful policies and programs and strategies for family friendly management.

Keynote speaker for the event is James Levine, director of The Fatherhood Project, Families and Work Institute, New York. Levine is a consultant to Corporate Family Solutions, the nation's leading provider of workplace-based child-care and will talk about "Daddy Strategy at Work: Creating a Father Friendly Business."

Levine will also give a second speech Tuesday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. This event is free, open to the public, and requires no registration. The topic is "The Fatherhood Project: New Strategies for Balancing Work and Family."

Participants will include representatives from such businesses and institutions as Casey's General Stores, ISU, Kirkwood Community College, The Principal Financial Group, St. Luke's Hospital (Kansas City), Weinberg and Associates, and ABC Virtual Communications.

The event's final speaker will be David Weinberg, former owner of Felpro Industries, a company known for its family friendly policies. He will summarize how the day's activities pertain to workplace communities.

The event is sponsored by The Center for Family Policy in ISU's College of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Murray G. Bacon Center for Ethics in Business and the Committee on Lectures.
