POET MARI EVANS WILL BE CARVER SCHOLAR AT ISU

AMES, Iowa -- African American poet and musician Mari Evans will read from her works at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, in the Sun Room of Iowa State University's Memorial Union. The event is free and open to the public.

Evans is ISU's George Washington Carver Scholar for the spring semester.

Evans edited and contributed to the book, "Black Women Writers (1950-1980)." She also is known for her poem, "I Am a Black Women," and several volumes of poetry, including "Nightstar" and the recently published, "A Dark and Splendid Mass."

Evans recently adapted Zora Neale Hurston's novel "Their Eyes Were Watching God" into a musical drama.
