COLLEGE OF FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES EARNS AAFCS ACCREDITATION

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State University College of Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS) has received accreditation from The Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The College is one of only 64 nationwide to be accredited by AAFCS.

The college was previously accredited by the agency in 1989. Accreditation occurs every 10 years following an in- depth study conducted by the CFCS and a site visit by AAFCS officials.

The family and consumer sciences accreditation program focuses on the quality of education offered in post- secondary FCS programs. The honor is important in education communities.

"On behalf of the Council of Accreditation, we are especially pleased to recognize the quality of the faculty and programs of this family and consumer sciences program," Joyce Crouse, Ph.D., and chair of the council, said in recognizing the ISU program.

"We are pleased to receive official word of our AAFCS Accreditation," Carol Meeks, Dean of CFCS, said. "This national recognition corroborates our belief in the continuing quality and strength of our programs, faculty and students."

Founded in 1909, the AAFCS is an organization of members dedicated to improving the quality of individual and family life through programs that educate, influence public policy, disseminate information and publish research findings.

Representing 17,000 professionals in the family and consumer sciences field, AAFCS members include elementary, secondary and post-secondary educators and administrators; cooperative extension agents; and other professionals in government, business and nonprofit sectors.
