| 12-9-99 Contacts: Jerlando Jackson, Education, (515) 294-8067 Cathy Curtis, Education, (515) 294-8175 Kevin Brown, News Service, (515) 294-8986 ISU DOCTORAL STUDENT TO HAVE WORK PUBLISHED IN ANTHOLOGY AMES, Iowa – Jerlando Jackson, an Iowa State University doctoral student, has been chosen to contribute to a new book, "African American Brothers of the Academy: Earning Our Way." The book, which will be published next spring, highlights 30 "up and coming" African American men who are making strong contributions to their areas of study. Jackson, Columbus, Ga., is pursuing a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies in the ISU College of Education. He is contributing a chapter titled, "The Road to Academic Administration," to the new book. The chapter "explores the most common career pathway traveled by academic administrators and issues related to that journey," said Jackson. Jackson was chosen because of his "outstanding contributions to his field and his potential to become a leading scholar in his academic discipline," said Lee Jones, associate dean for academic affairs and instruction at Florida State University, Tallahassee. Jones is compiling the book. At Iowa State, Jackson coordinates the Student Ambassador program for the College of Education and serves as an editorial reviewer for "The Journal of College Student Development." He also serves as one of the assistants to the dean of the education college. He has also served as the National Pan-Hellenic Council Advisor at ISU and provided leadership and guidance to Historically Black Lettered Organizations. In addition, he has earned several awards and honors including being named as a NAACP Most Dedicated Member. Jackson will graduate from ISU in May, 2000. He earned a bachelor of music education from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, and masters of education in higher education administration from Auburn University, Auburn, Al. -30- |
