His schedule will include class visits, receptions with students and faculty and a public lecture.

His evening lecture, presented at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Memorial Union Sun Room, is titled "Affirmative Action and Beyond." Refreshments will be served following his talk.

This fall, Wilson is a visiting professor in the educational administration department (education college) and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas. He had been with the American Council on Education, Washington, D.C., from 1981 to last spring. Initially he served as director of the Office of Minority Concerns, before being named a senior scholar in 1988.

From 1971 to 1981, he served as president of Wayne State Community College, Detroit. He has taught graduate courses in psychology and black studies at Wayne State University, Detroit; the University of Detroit; Oakland University, Rochester, Mich.; and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Wilson is a co-author of the Council's Annual Status Report on Minorities in Higher Education, which he began in 1982. He is an editor of Minorities in Higher Education and Race and Equity in Higher Education, proceedings of a 1981 ACE seminar on desegregation in higher education.

Wilson received a Ph.D. in clinical and educational psychology from Wayne State University, Detroit. He has received the Distinguished Service Medal from the city of Detroit and the Harold Delaney Exemplary Leadership Award from the American Association of Higher Education.

Iowa State officials created the Carver visiting scholar program in 1993 to bring professors from under-represented groups to campus. The intent of the program is to broaden students' educational experience and enrich the university environment. The program is funded through a $500,000 endowment.
