ISU TO HOST TELECONFERENCE ON HIGH-RISK ALCOHOL USE

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University will host a teleconference on battling high-risk alcohol use on college campuses on Monday, March 30, beginning at 1 p.m.

The two-hour teleconference will be in Room 2532 of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The teleconference will examine such issues as the characteristics and implications of high-risk drinking; practices and policies that help reduce or change high-risk drinking behaviors; and steps to develop an effective alcohol abuse prevention program.

Teleconference speakers are Joel Epstein, consulting attorney to the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention; Michael P. Haines, coordinator of Health Enhancement Services at Northern Illinois University, De Kalb; Sandra A. Hoover, deputy director in the Office of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse at the American Medical Association; Dennis J. McBee, coordinator of Drug and Alcohol Services at the University of Vermont's Center for Health and Wellbeing, Burlington; and Nancy Schulte, director of Drug and Health Promotion Services at George Mason University, Fairfax, Va. Christopher Graff, head of the Vermont bureau of the Associated Press, will moderate.

The teleconference will originate from the University of Vermont campus. An optional small group discussion will follow the teleconference
