REGENTS ACT ON VARIETY OF ISU PROPOSALSCEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Iowa Board of Regents approved Iowa State University proposals related to academic programs, undergraduate education and parking at its meeting May 20-21.
At the meeting, the regents:
-30-
- Approved changing the name of the department of journalism and mass communication to the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. The name change is the result of a $9 million gift received in March from ISU alumni Robert and Diane Greenlee of Boulder, Colo. The Greenlees' gift is the largest ever to ISU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Iowa State will raise another $9 million by 2001 to fully endow the Greenlee School.
- Approved a vice provost for undergraduate programs position, which will be responsible for coordination of academic policies, procedures and programs that impact Iowa State's 20,000 undergraduate students. The vice provost for undergraduate programs will assume duties related to undergraduate education currently being performed by associate provost Edwin Lewis, who is retiring in December.
- Approved restructuring of the College of Business. The college currently has five departments -- accounting, finance, management, marketing and transportation and logistics. The restructuring will create a department of logistics, operations and management systems by combining transportation and logistics with two management department programs. The department of management will continue, though it will be smaller. The departments of accounting, finance and marketing will not change. The restructuring is being done to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the college.
- Approved parking rate increases for 1998-99. Campus parking permit fees will go up, on average, less than 4 percent for the year that begins July 1. ISU officials propose that most of the increased parking revenue will be put into a fund set up to partially pay for an anticipated parking ramp four to seven years from now.
