ISU APPOINTS PROVOST SEARCH COMMITTEE

AMES, Iowa -- A search committee for Iowa State University's provost position has been appointed.

ISU Provost John Kozak recently announced that he will leave the position on Dec. 31 to return to teaching and research. Richard Seagrave, Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering, will serve as interim provost beginning Jan. 1, 1999. A national search for a new provost is underway.

George Kraus, professor and chair of chemistry, will chair the provost search committee. Other members of the committee are:

• Virginia Arthur, associate director, residence

• Hector Avalos, associate professor philosophy

• Julia Badenhope, assistant professor, landscape architecture

• Martha Behrens, secretary, Agriculture Information Service

• James Bernard, professor, mechanical engineering

• Diane Birt, professor and chair, food science and human nutrition

• J. Herman Blake, professor and chair, African American studies program

• Rob Bowers, public safety and Professional and Scientific Council president

• Bryan Burkhardt, president, Government of the Student Body

• George Covert, associate director, computation center

• Jan Fryer, assistant professor, ISU Library

• Laura Greiner, graduate student

• Harley Moon, professor, Veterinary Medicine Research Institute

• Paula Morrow, professor, industrial relations

• Diana Pounds, manager, internal communications, university relations

• Patrick Schnable, professor, agronomy

• Joan Thompson, treasurer

• Denise Vrchota, adjunct assistant professor, Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, and ISU Faculty Senate president

The provost is the chief academic officer of the university and oversees the university's eight colleges, ISU Extension and various research units. Applications and nominations for the provost's position will be accepted until the position is filled.
