ORDER OF THE ARROW CONFERENCE COMING TO IOWA STATE

AMES, Iowa -- The National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) will bring about 7,000 uniformed visitors to the Iowa State University campus Aug. 2-6. Every other year on a university campus, Order of the Arrow, a division of the Boy Scouts of America, holds a national conference that focuses on training and leadership. "Arrowmen" visiting Iowa State will range in age from eighth graders to adults.

"We're pleased to have these scouts at Iowa State. It's a great opportunity to showcase our campus and our facilities," said Liz Kurt, director of university conference services. "Maybe we'll even recruit a student or two."

The main activities at NOAC include ceremony evaluations, a leadership training series, Native American events, special shows and a founders day celebration. In the mornings, Arrowmen will take part in leadership training activities in about a dozen classroom buildings on campus. Some of the more heavily used buildings will be Carver, Pearson, Curtiss, Marston, MacKay/LeBaron, Ross and Gilman halls. Afternoons are reserved for recreation tournaments and outdoor learning activities. NOAC participants will attend a special event in Hilton Coliseum each evening. A daily newspaper, put together by NOAC staff, will be produced in Hamilton Hall.

All ISU residence halls will be occupied during the conference. CyRide will provide additional shuttle service between campus and the Iowa State Center to accommodate the scouts.
