ISU'S JOHNSON ELECTED TO HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

AMES, Iowa -- Stanley Johnson, Iowa State University's vice provost for extension, has been elected an honorary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Johnson was honored for developing large-scale economic models for analysis of trade, agriculture, environment, and food and nutrition policies. An economist, he was instrumental in establishing cooperative programs between ISU and leading Hungarian institutions, including the Budapest Economics University and Academy of Sciences.

Two years ago, Johnson was awarded an honorary doctorate by Debrecen Agricultural University in Hungary.

Johnson, C.F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, is the former director of ISU's Center for Agricultural and Rural Development. He also is executive director of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute and chair of the board of the Midwest Agribusiness Trade Research and Information Center at ISU.

In 1997, Johnson was named an honorary professor at the Center of Rural Development Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Johnson is a member of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in both Russia and Ukraine, and he is an honorary professor of the Ukrainian State Agricultural University.
