IOWA STATE AND FUDAN UNIVERSITY SIGN AGREEMENTS
AMES, Iowa -- The president of Fudan University, one of the top three universities in China, will sign a series of cooperative agreements with Iowa State University on Monday, Feb. 16. A signing ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m., at 117 Beardshear Hall.
Fudan President Fujia Yang and Iowa State President Martin Jischke will sign four cooperative agreements between the two institutions. The agreements include a program of student and faculty exchanges, joint collaborative research and development projects in materials science and information sciences, joint projects in information science and technology, cooperation on technology transfer and joint pursuit of a virtual research and development center.
Three of the agreements are between the International Institute of Theoretical and Applied Physics (IITAP) at Iowa State and the Shanghai Research Center for Applied Physics at Fudan University. The other agreement is between the two universities and concerns the student and faculty exchanges.
"These agreements will increase our sharing of expertise, cooperation in scientific endeavors, and development of research and education collaborations." said IITAP Director James Vary.
IITAP is an international physics center set up in partnership with the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to foster world peace through the sharing of scientific advances. IITAP was established in 1993 and is only the second institute of its type in the world.
The Shanghai Research Center for Applied Physics is a regional research center that includes participation of more than 20 universities and research institutes in the Shanghai area.
