ISU EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH AWARDED $1 MILLION GRANT

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's Educational Talent Search program has received a $1 million-plus grant to help low-income students in Iowa.

The federal TRIO grant was awarded to ISU's Educational Talent Search program by the U.S. Department of Education. The ETS program, which is administered by ISU's student affairs division, identifies low-income youths with potential for college success and provides services to help them complete their high school education and pursue post- secondary education. The program will receive an annual award of approximately $266,000 for four years.

ETS services include academic, assistance in completing college admission and financial aid applications, preparing for college entrance exams, preparing for general education development (GED), personal and career counseling, mentoring programs, exposure to college campuses, and workshops and counseling for parents of participating students.

The ETS program targets 12 cities in eight Iowa counties. The cities are Manson, Lake City, Dubuque, Blairsburg, Alden, Iowa Falls, LeGrand, Marshalltown, Des Moines, Tama, Gowrie and Fort Dodge.
