ESPINOZA NAMED AFFIRMATIVE ACTION DIRECTOR
AMES, Iowa -- Carla Espinoza, Iowa State University Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, has been named Director of Affirmative Action. The appointment is effective immediately.
Espinoza has been interim Director of Affirmative Action director since August 1996.
Espinoza joined ISU in May 1996, when she was appointed assistant vice president for human resources. Espinoza will retain this position.
"Carla Espinoza's commitment to affirmative action and a strong record in handling workplace issues make her an excellent choice for Iowa State's affirmative action officer," said President Martin Jischke.
Prior to coming to ISU, Espinoza was a partner and principal investigator with Factfinders, a personnel consulting firm in Albuquerque, N.M.; director of the department of human resources at the University of New Mexico; and assistant vice chancellor of affirmative action and equal opportunity at the University of California, Irvine.
She received the B.A. in English in 1971 from California State University, Northridge, and a master's degree in public administration in 1978 from California State University, Los Angeles.
ISU's affirmative action officer develops and monitors equal opportunity and affirmative action policies, investigates internal discrimination complaints and serves as a liaison with federal and state enforcement agencies on compliance reviews and externally filed discrimination complaints.
The Office of Human Resource Services encompasses responsibility for the Regents merit system, labor relations, employee benefits, child care, P&S classification, training and development, retirement advising and employee assistance programs.
