ISU DESIGN DEAN NAMED TO AIA COLLEGE OF FELLOWS

AMES, Iowa -- Mark Engelbrecht, dean of Iowa State University's College of Design, has been named to the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) prestigious College of Fellows.

The College of Fellows is an honor awarded to AIA members who have made contributions of national significance to the architectural field. There are more than 59,000 AIA members, but only 2,300 members have been distinguished with the honor of fellowship.

The fellowship is awarded to AIA members who have at least 10 years of membership. Members must meet certain standards before being elevated to the College of Fellows. Engelbrecht was named to the College of Fellows for his work in education that has impacted and inspired others in the field and profession, said AIA officials.

Engelbrecht has been involved in the architecture field for 31 years and directs his own practice, Engelbrecht and Griffin Architects, P.C., with offices in Newburyport, Mass. and Des Moines. Engelbrecht founded his practice in 1966. He began teaching in 1969 and has been the dean of ISU's College of Design since 1994. Engelbrecht has been a member of AIA since 1970.

Engelbrecht will be inducted into the College of Fellows on May 15 at the 1998 AIA National Convention in San Francisco.
