BREAKING BOUNDARIES IN BARJCHE '98
AMES, Iowa -- "Barjche," an energy-filled dance performance by Iowa State faculty and students, will be held March 6-8 in Fisher Theater.
Barjche '98 will include 15 dances about change. Members of Orchesis, an ISU dance troupe, along with ISU faculty and guest artists, will explore breaking boundaries, breaking expectations and breaking traditions in their dance performances.
This year's guest artist is Karen Donaldson, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction. Donaldson will perform a traditional Caribbean dance, accompanied by drummers playing the traditional rhythmic patterns of the islands.
Other highlights of the show include:
Barjche '98 will include live music, a specially composed score, big band music, impressionist compositions and selections from movie soundtracks.
- Paula McArthur's return to Barjche to perform a new work using nontraditional dance forms.
- Performances by ISU faculty members Laurie Sanda, Barry Larkin, Janice Baker and Vernon Windsor.
- Ten students performing a dance that comically explores mood swings.
The Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday performance will begin at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the C.Y. Stephens box office for $5.
