SPEAKERS WILL DISCUSS SCIENCE AND RELIGION

AMES, Iowa--A grant from the John Templeton Foundation is helping Iowa State University bring two science and religion speakers to campus.

Paul Croce, professor of American studies at Stetson University, DeLand, Fla., will speak at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in 1414 Molecular Biology. The title of his talk is "If it's certain, it can't be true: On the evolution of science and religion in the nineteenth century." Croce is the author of "Science and Religion in the Age of William James."

David Lindberg, professor of history of science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will speak on Tuesday, March 3, 1998, in the South Ballroom of Iowa State's Memorial Union. His speech is titled "Galileo: Hero or Heretic." Lindberg has written many books on science in the middle ages.

In 1996, the John Templeton Foundation, Radnor, Pa., awarded Iowa State $10,000 for offering an outstanding course, History of Science and Religion, which examines the relationship between science and religion. The course is taught by David Wilson. Part of the award allowed ISU to bring in two speakers to discuss science and religion.
