DES MOINES SYMPHONY KICKS OFF NEW YEAR AT ISU
AMES, Iowa -- A concert by the Des Moines Symphony will kick off the new academic year for students, faculty and staff at Iowa State University. The performance will be held on central campus Monday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.
"We are thrilled to have the Des Moines Symphony helping us launch the new academic year at Iowa State University," said ISU President Martin Jischke. "This will be a spectacularly memorable event for the ISU community, especially our students."
Under the direction of Joseph Giunta, music director and conductor, the symphony will open with John Williams' "Summon the Heroes" (composed for the 1996 Olympic Games). Other classical works will feature solos by Joseph Messenger, clarinetist, and David Stuart, trombonist; both faculty in ISU's music department. The concert will conclude with the ISU Fight Song.
Concert goers are advised to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
The concert is sponsored by the F. Wendell Miller Endowment, the ISU President's Office and the Government of the Student Body.
