ANDERSON RECEIVES ISU'S DWIGHT INK PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD
AMES, Iowa -- Eric Anderson, city manager of Des Moines, has received the Dwight Ink Public Service Award from the Iowa State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
The award, sponsored by the college's political science department and public administration graduate program, recognizes distinguished public service and support of graduate education.
Anderson has been city manager of Des Moines since 1995. Previously, he held public service positions in Arizona, Connecticut, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Washington, D.C. Anderson holds two master's degrees, from the State University of New York, Albany, and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University, New York. He has continued his education through a National Endowment to the Humanities Fellowship at Princeton University, New Jersey, and at the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.
Last year, Anderson was elected a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
Dwight Ink, for whom the public service award is named, is a native Iowan and 1946 graduate of ISU. Ink has had a long career in public service and has served in high-level policymaking and advising positions for seven different presidents, from Harry Truman to Ronald Reagan. Ink returns frequently to ISU to lecture and support the public administration graduate program.
