MICHAEL GARTNER TO ADDRESS LIBRARY SUPPORTERSAMES, Iowa -- Michael Gartner, editor of The Daily Tribune, Ames, and winner of the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for newspaper editorial writing, will give a public talk at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Ames Public Library Auditorium, 515 Douglas Ave. He will speak on words and freedom, including the idea that libraries are repositories of knowledge and free speech. The event is co-sponsored by the ISU Library Friends and the Friends of the Ames Public Library.
Gartner will respond to questions at the conclusion of his talk.
The Friends of the Ames Public Library will hold its annual meeting following Gartner's talk. Both parts of the evening are open to the public.
ISU Library Friends was founded in 1992 to promote the Iowa State University library, attract financial support and sponsor activities that showcase library resources. Friends of the Ames Public Library promotes the quality and growth of the public library's resources and services.
