ISU TO HOST PUBLIC FORUM ON GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY, MAY 21

AMES, Iowa -- A public forum on ways the United States can address global food problems will be held Wednesday, May 21, at Iowa State University.

The meeting is one of 12 to be held around the country that day. The National Consultations on Food Security, coordinated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, are a follow-up to last fall's World Food Summit in Rome.

At the Rome summit, an agreement was reached to reduce world hunger by half by the year 2015. The follow-up meetings will seek public input on ways the United States can help achieve that goal. Results will be used to develop a U.S. action plan on food security that identifies priorities and actions to achieve greater food security at home and abroad.

Persons involved in food and agricultural issues from the public and private sectors have been invited to participate at the ISU meeting, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Scheman Building at the Iowa State Center.

The public is invited. There is no charge. If you plan to attend, please call (515) 294-2883. ISU is hosting the meeting in cooperation with the World Food Prize Foundation in Des Moines.
