ISU FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES COLLEGE TO KICK-OFF CAREER WEEK SEPT. 29AMES, Iowa -- You never get a second chance to make a first impression, so Iowa State University's College of Family and Consumer Sciences is making sure its students get it right the first time.
A presentation on professional image by entrepreneur Beverly Washington, Chicago, Ill., will kick-off Career Week for the college Monday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m. in the ISU Memorial Union Great Hall.
Washington is president of Image Factor, a company specializing in personal and professional image building, communication and presentation enhancement, business ettiquette and self-management techniques.
Students will get a chance to make a first impression with more than 90 companies on Family and Consumer Sciences Career Day Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. also in Great Hall. A record number of organizations will attend this year's event, according to Beverly Kruempel, director of career placement for the college
"Today's job market is becoming increasingly competitive," said Kruempel. "It's important that in addition to a great education, we arm these students with every tool possible, including a professional image."
Representatives from attending organizations will talk with students about career paths, internships, full time positions, and their organizations.
