REGENTS APPROVE NEW CENTER FOR FAMILY POLICY
AMES, Iowa --The Iowa Board of Regents approved the new Iowa State University Center for Family Policy at a meeting today (Feb. 20) in Iowa City.
The new center will address national and state policy issues focusing on people at all stages of life and their families and communities, especially those whose quality of life is constrained by economic, social and/or developmental circumstances.
The center will be a unit of Iowa State's College of Family and Consumer Sciences and dean will oversee the center.
"This new Center for Family Policy will enable Iowa State to further address public policy issues that affect the well being of Iowa families and the communities in which they live," said Maurice MacDonald, professor and chair of the human development and family studies department.
The center will actively pursue collaborative research projects with faculty from other educational institutions, representatives from business and industry, and government officials.
In addition to research, the center will assist with training programs for employees and contract staff of local, state and federal government agencies serving individuals and families.
