NATIONAL EXPERT ON ECONOMIC BEHAVIOR, POVERTY
TO SPEAK AT ISU
AMES, Iowa -- Greg Duncan, Northwestern University Institute for Policy Research, Chicago, will present two seminars on poverty-related research April 10 and 11.
On Thursday, April 10, Duncan will discuss his research on the impact of the New Hope Project on family functioning and well-being, a three-year experiment designed to reduce poverty by providing job-search assistance, wage supplements, and health insurance and child care subsidies to lower income families. The presentation will be held at 2 p.m. in the LeBaron Lounge, ISU College of Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS).
On Friday, April 11, Duncan will present "How Much Does Childhood Poverty Affect the Life Chances of Children?" at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union Gold Room. Duncan will share research findings that suggest economic conditions in early childhood have the biggest impact on achievement, especially among children from low-income families.
Duncan's presentations are sponsored by the CFCS Gordon and Muriel Bivens Seminar Series.
