ISU SPONSORS CONFERENCE ON WOMEN IN ACADEMIA
AMES, Iowa -- More than 150 women educators from throughout the world will gather in Ames on Nov. 13-15 for "Dialogues Across Differences: Personal and Professional Stories of Women in Education."
"Dialogues Across Differences" is the 23rd annual conference of the Research on Women and Education division of the American Educational Research Association. The event is sponsored in part by Iowa State University. Theresa McCormick, ISU educator professor, is conference chair.
The conference will focus on research on professional and personal lives of women in education and will include panel discussions, keynote speakers, readers' theater performances and exhibits. The conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Gateway Center.
The keynote speaking events are free and open to the public. The keynote speakers are:

"Unity and Diversity in Higher Education: Narratives of African- American Women Who Invaded the 'Sacred Grove'"
Saturday, Nov. 15, 8 a.m.
Rickie Solinger, Historian
"Nine Ways of Looking At A Poor Woman"
ISU sponsors of this conference are the College of Education, curriculum and instruction department, professional studies department, Sloss Women's Center, human resources, University Committee on Women and the African American Studies program.
