CHRISTOPHER AHOY IS NEW ISU FACILITIES DIRECTOR
AMES, Iowa -- Christopher Ahoy has been named associate vice president for facilities planning and management at Iowa State University. He replaces William Whitman, who retired from the university Dec. 31. Ahoy, who will begin his duties at Iowa State March 1, currently serves as assistant vice president for business and finance and director of facilities planning and management for the University of Nebraska system, Lincoln.
The associate vice president leads the university's campus planning and facilities management operations, which include such things as design services, building and grounds maintenance, utilities, campus mail, classroom scheduling, the ISU flight service and operation of Veenker Memorial Golf Course.
"We are pleased that Chris Ahoy has decided to come to Iowa State," said ISU Vice President for Business and Finance Warren Madden. "His experience in planning, both in the university and private sector, and operating experience will assist Iowa State in continuing to improve and develop campus facilities."
Ahoy has been in his current position at the University of Nebraska since 1994. Previously, he was president and chief executive officer of Comprehensive Facilities Management, a consulting firm in Berkeley, Calif., from 1987 to 1994. He was statewide director of facilities planning and construction for the University of Alaska system from 1981 to 1987 and spent seven years in facilities management at the University of California, Berkeley, as assistant director, campus architect and a senior manager for technical services. From 1965 to 1974, Ahoy worked as an architect for several San Francisco architectural firms.
He wrote and revised the Manual for Selection of Consultants, a guide that presents selection procedures when hiring design consultants and the principles of fee negotiation.
Ahoy received two degrees in architecture, a B.A. in 1964 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and an M.A. in 1965 from the University of California, Berkeley.
