ROBINSON NAMED INTERIM VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRSAMES, Iowa -- Daniel C. Robinson, university professor and professor of higher education, has been named interim vice president for student affairs at Iowa State University. The appointment is effective Jan. 1, 1997.
Robinson is taking over for Tom Thielen, who will return to the Department of Professional Studies in the College of Education for the spring semester and retire on May 31, 1997.
Robinson has been with the ISU College of Education since 1985, and became a university professor in 1993. Prior to joining the College of Education, Robinson held several student affairs positions at Iowa State, including assistant to the vice president for student affairs (1985 to 1986).
Robinson is a member on the ISU Diversity Steering Committee, chair of the College of Education Diversity Committee, a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Teaching Excellence, and is co-chair for the Task Force to Improve Undergraduate Education. Robinson has been very active with ISU's student-athletes, serving on the ISU Athletic Council from 1988 to 1993 and as the council's president in 1992-93.
Robinson has earned three degrees from ISU: B.S. (1970) in physical education and sociology, and M.S. (1971) and Ph.D. (1978) in higher education administration and counseling psychology.
Thielen has been Iowa State's vice president for student affairs for the past 20 years. A national search will be conducted for his permanent successor.
