RISING SKUNK RIVER FORCES THE CLOSING OF SEVERAL ROADS
AMES, Iowa -- Several roads leading into and around Ames are either closed or will be closed due to the rising Skunk River.
Iowa State officials are urging faculty, staff and students to use caution in traveling to and from campus. University officials are asking that faculty and administrators be considerate of the travel requirements of students and employees.
The Skunk River was at 15.84 ft. at 1 p.m. It is expected to crest later this afternoon. Westbound Highway 30 at Dayton Road has been closed. Eastbound Highway 30 may be closed soon and I-35 south of Ames could be closed due to flooding. Roads already closed are South Duff from South 3rd to Chestnut, East Lincoln Way and East 13th Street. A portion of Highway 69 North was closed most of the day but is expected to be opened soon.
At around 9:15 a.m. the Squaw Creek crested at 15.3 ft. It is receding. The only university building to take water was a machine shop at the Veenker Golf Course, but much of the golf course is under water.
