4-H WILL RETURN TO RIBBON PLACEMENT AT IOWA STATE FAIRAMES, Iowa -- Following discussions with many 4-H constituents, the State Youth and 4-H Program has decided to return to blue-red-white ribbon placement at the Iowa State Fair.
This past year, a pilot effort replaced the blue-red-white ribbon placement with a "showcase" ribbon in the 4-H Exhibits Building at the State Fair. The pilot effort also provided the opportunity in five selected project areas for exhibitors to visit with the judge and participate in workshops.
"We welcomed feedback from 4-H youth, parents and leaders, supporters of 4-H program, and the general public about the 4-H Exhibits Building pilot program," said Joe Kurth, director of youth and 4-H programs for Iowa State University Extension.
Based on that feedback, the program will reinstate blue-red- white ribbon placement for all 4-H exhibits at future Iowa State Fairs, Kurth said. In 1997, the program will again provide the opportunity for participants in selected project areas to visit with the judge and participate in workshops. Written evaluative comments from a qualified judge will continue to be provided for all exhibits, Kurth added.
The decision was made jointly by the State Youth and 4-H Program and the Iowa State Fair Board and is unanimously supported by the State Fair 4-H Advisory Committee, Kurth said.
