$1 MILLION GIFT TO FURTHER PRESIDENT'SSCHOLARSHIP CAMPAIGN AT IOWA STATE
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University alumni Enlow Ose and Melena Adams Ose, Sacramento, Calif., have contributed $1 million toward the ISU President's Scholarship Campaign.
"Enlow and Melena Ose's very generous gift demonstrates their commitment to both Iowa State University and the students we serve," said ISU President Martin Jischke. "Their generosity will enable us to significantly expand our educational opportunities for students in the future, which is one of our most important goals as Iowa's land-grant university."
To date, the $26 million President's Scholarship Campaign has generated $24 million. A portion of the campaign funds are used to offer scholarships to National Merit Scholars. Approximately 150 National Merit Scholars are expected to attend Iowa State this fall, which will vault ISU into the top three or four public universities in the nation for National Merit Scholar enrollment. A scholarship to be awarded to a National Merit Scholar has been established in the Oses' name.
Melena Adams Ose graduated from Iowa State in 1946 with a degree in dietetics. She has served as a governor of the ISU Foundation since 1983. She also serves on the ISU Foundation Board of Directors and chairs the Foundation's Investment Committee. Melena also does extensive community volunteer work.
Enlow Ose earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State in 1947. He is president of Ose Properties, Inc., and Melenco, Inc., Sacramento, Calif. Prior to starting his own company, Enlow served in the U.S. Navy for two years. He then worked for General Motors as an auto engineer. He began his career in real estate as a salesman with Coldwell-Banker, Sacramento, Calif., in 1955.
Enlow's community involvement includes serving on the board of directors for KVIE-Channel 6, Sacramento; membership in the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce; and serving on the board of directors of California State University's Trust Foundation, Sacramento.
The Oses' philanthropic activities include establishing the Ose Gallery at the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, and the Enlow and Melena Ose Endowment for the Arts through the Sacramento Regional Foundation.
