AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORIAN TO SPEAK ON
RACE AND THE SUFFRAGE MOVEMENT AT ISU
AMES, Iowa -- Darlene Clark Hine, John A. Hannah Professor of American History at Michigan State University, will speak at Iowa State University on Wednesday, March 20, as part of an African American Women in the Suffrage Movement lecture series.
She will speak at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
Hine also will discuss race issues related to the suffrage movement with interested members of the Iowa State community at 3:30 p.m. in the Campanile Room of the Memorial Union.
Hine is the editor of a 16-volume series, "Black Women in University States History: From Colonial Times to the President," and a two-volume series, "Black Women in America: A Historical Encyclopedia." She also is the author of several books, including "Speak Truth to Power: Black Professional Class in United States History," "Hine Sight: Black Women and the Re-Construction of American History," "Black Women in White: Racial Conflict and Cooperation in the Nursing Profession," and "Black Victory: The Rise and Fall of the White Primary in Texas."
Hine's lecture, part of Women's History Month, is open to the public.
