ISU DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR NAMED FELLOW OF AMERICAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE

AMES, Iowa -- Albert E. Freeman, Iowa State University professor of animal science and a Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor of Agriculture, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Freeman is one of 283 people who will be recognized as AAAS fellows Feb. 15 at the AAAS annual meeting in Seattle, Wash.

An internationally known dairy cattle geneticist, Freeman's research areas include sire and cow evaluation using field data. He has served as chairman, secretary and executive committee member for the Regional Dairy Cattle Breeding Committee. Freeman has won numerous awards for his contributions to the dairy cattle industry, including the Rockefeller Prentice Memorial Animal Breeding and Genetics Award , the National Association of Animal Breeders Research Award and the American Dairy Science Association Borden Award.

AAAS fellows are judged for their efforts toward advancing science or fostering applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished. Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world's leading general scientific society, with 144,000 individual members and nearly 300 affiliated societies.
