LOVE DECLINES ISU POST; ESPINOZA NAMED INTERIM AFFIRMATIVE ACTION DIRECTOR

AMES, Iowa -- Deborah Love, who had accepted the position of assistant to the president and affirmative action officer at Iowa State University, has informed ISU officials that she has withdrawn her acceptance to take a position at Washington State University. ISU President Martin Jischke said he was "surprised and disappointed" by Love's decision.

Jischke also announced that Carla Espinoza, assistant vice president for human resources, has been named interim affirmative action officer. Espinoza joined ISU May 28. She previously served as a partner and principal investigator with Factfinders, a personnel consulting firm in Albuquerque, N.M.; director of the department of human resources at the University of New Mexico; and assistant vice chancellor of affirmative action and equal opportunity at the University of California, Irvine.

"We are very fortunate to have someone of Carla's extensive experience in affirmative action at ISU, including experience at a Carnegie I Research University. I very much appreciate her agreeing to take on this additional responsibility on an interim basis," Jischke said.

A new search for a permanent affirmative action officer will be initiated at a later date, Jischke said.
