GOLDMAN TO LEAVE ISU RESEARCH PARK

AMES, Iowa--Leonard Goldman has announced that he will resign as director of the Iowa State University Research Park effective Jan. 1, 1997. The resignation was mutually agreed to by Goldman, Iowa State and the ISU Research Park Board of Directors.

The agreement stipulates that Goldman will be paid approximately $200,000 in salary and benefits to settle the terms of his contract with the university, which runs through Oct. 31, 1998. However, it includes incentives for Goldman to secure other employment before that date, which would reduce the amount of the settlement.

Goldman, who has directed the ISU Research Park since it was created in 1986, said, "I came to Iowa State to accomplish a series of goals and I have met or exceeded those goals in a time frame that was less than what was expected. I'm proud of my record with the research park and I hope that its progress can be accelerated."

Russ Cross, president of Norwest Bank in Ames and chairperson of the research park board of directors, said, "The ISU Research Park is one of the premier university research parks in the nation and one with an exciting future." Currently, there are 30 businesses with more than 750 employees in the Research Park's Phase I development, consisting of 60 acres, and it has just begun Phase II development of another 80 acres. Included in Phase I are two multi-tenant buildings, and facilities owned by AMPC, Engineering Animation Inc. and Edge Technologies.

Cross and Martin Jischke, president of Iowa State, announced that Dave Roederer, coordinator of economic development at ISU, has been named interim director of the research park. They said a national search will begin in the near future to hire a permanent director.
