IOWA STATE'S WOMEN'S WEEK FEATURES POLITICAL FORUMS, CYBER ISSUES AND PRESERVING THE PERSONALITY OF ADOLESCENT GIRLS
AMES, Iowa -- Noted author Mary Pipher will present the keynote address for Women's Week 2002 at Iowa State University, Oct. 3-16.
Pipher, a Lincoln, Neb., psychologist, wrote "Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls." Her lecture, "Ophelia's Family: Women and Families in 2002," will be 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, Sun Room, Memorial Union.
Other Women's Week events include:
"Leveling the Playing Field: 30 Years of Title IX," a panel discussion with Christine Grant, retired women's athletic director, University of Iowa, and Ann Rhodes, former U of I women's athletic director and currently attorney, U of I Office of General Counsel; moderated by Dianne Bystrom, Catt Center director, 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, Great Hall, Memorial Union.
"The Wild, Wild Web: Cyber stalking," presented by Jayne Hitchcock, online crime and security expert and author of "Net Crimes and Misdemeanors: Outmaneuvering Online," 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, Sun Room, Memorial Union.
"The Life of Frida Kahlo: A One-Woman Show," performed by Lara Gallardo and based on the life of the Mexican artist and revolutionary, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, Brunnier Gallery, Scheman Building.
Open house and Men Flippin' Burgers, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, Sloss House.
"Are We on the Same Page Here? Women and Men Sharing Gendered Spaces," lecture presented by Sharon Bird, ISU sociology, noon, Wednesday, Oct. 9, Campanile Room, Memorial Union.
Candidate forum with Iowa Lt. Gov. Sally Pederson and her opponent, Debi Durham, 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, Sun Room, Memorial Union.
"I'm Not Political, I'm Pregnant!: Generation X Confronts the Abortion Issue," presented by Krista Jacob, founder and editor-in-chief, Sexing the Political: A Journal of Third Wave Feminists on Sexuality, 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, Sun Room, Memorial Union.
