MALIN FAMILY OF SEWARD, NEB., NAMED 'FAMILY OF THE YEAR'
AMES, Iowa -- The John and Carlene Malin family of Seward, Neb., have been chosen as Iowa State University's 2002 Family of the Year. The Malin's are being honored during Iowa State's Family Weekend events, Sept. 20-22.
The Malin's have four children who are attending or are graduates of Iowa State. Andy Malin is a senior in industrial education; Elisabeth Malin is a junior in elementary education; Josh Malin graduated in 2000 with a chemical engineering degree; and Ben Malin graduated in 2000 with degrees in mathematics and economics.
John Malin, the father, is a church chairman and chaplain at a Nebraska penitentiary. Carlene Malin is involved with church activities, is a registered dietician and volunteers with nutrition and health seminars. The family regularly contributes to Iowa State through its involvement in the Greek community and through various philanthropic organizations in Ames.
The ISU Family of the Year is chosen through an application and interview process. A family must be nominated by a current student. Iowa State has named a Family of the Year for more than 20 years and holds an annual reunion for all of the families.
