CAREER FAIR HIGHLIGHTS E-WEEK AT IOWA STATE,
SEPT. 22-28

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's College of Engineering will hold Engineers' Week, Sept. 22-28. The theme of this year's E-Week is "Piecing Together the Future."

E-Week activities are organized and run entirely by students. The mission is to involve the college in a celebration of engineering that encompasses all students, faculty, staff and alumni. The goals of the week are to provide students opportunities to interact with fellow students, faculty and company representatives in professional and social settings, to educate the public about engineering and to provide service to the community.

E-Week activities begin with a golf tournament Sunday, Sept. 22, at Veenker Memorial Golf Course. The E-Week Kickoff Picnic, free to all engineering students, is Monday, Sept. 23, and features a bungee run, engineering clubs showcase and a dunk tank. All proceeds will go to Youth and Shelter Services of Ames.

The centerpiece of E-Week activities is the Career Fair, 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Hilton Coliseum. The career fair is one of the largest indoor events of its type in the nation, completely filling Hilton and featuring representatives from 214 corporations and government agencies.

As many as 4,700 students will take part in the fair, which gives them the opportunity to network, polish their interview skills and learn about job opportunities in Iowa and across the nation. The fair provides students with an excellent chance to meet with prospective employers and to explore internships.

"The Career Fair continues to be one of the largest of its type in the country," said Larry Hanneman, director of engineering career services. "Employers like what they find at Iowa State and continue to participate in large numbers, even when the economy slows down. The event is a tremendous opportunity for students to see just how broad the engineering profession is, and from a practical standpoint, it is a key way for them to start their careers with excellent co-op, internship, summer and full time positions with leading employers."

Thursday, Sept. 26, is senior visitation day, when high school students from across the Midwest can explore the opportunities that come with an engineering education at Iowa State. Prospective students are invited to tour Iowa State's engineering facilities, as well as meet with engineering students and faculty.

E-Week concludes the evening of Saturday, Sept. 28, with the Engineers' Ball at the Starlite Village Inn in Ames.
