St. Germain will be one of about 20 visual artists, writers and composers focusing on their own creative projects at this working retreat. St. Germain is the author of several non-fiction and poetry books, including "Swamp Songs: The Making of an Unruly Woman," a memoir of growing up in New Orleans, set to publish in January. She is currently working on another non-fiction book, "The Dark Behind Us." The book is a personal and cultural memoir that investigates the issues facing a single mother raising a defiant, intelligent son diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. Prior to her fellowship from the VCCA, St. Germain received a residency at the Vermont Studies Center for the same project.
