Spirduso will speak on "The Third Age: Reinventing Old Age in the New Millennium" at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, Room 279 of the Forker Building. The event is free and open to the public. Spirduso is the Mauzy Regents Professor of Kinesiology and director of the Institute of Gerontology at the University of Texas, Austin. She studies the relationships of health and fitness to physical and cognitive function in older adults. She is the author of "Physical Dimensions of Aging" and co-author of "Research Proposals that Work." Spirduso has served as president of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education and the North American Society of the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity. While on campus, Spirduso will visit Iowa State health and human performance classes and work with graduate students in the program. The Pease Family Scholar Fund was created in memory of Harvey and Bomell Pease, of Newport Beach, Calif. The endowment was established in 1991 by their son, the late Dean Pease, and his wife, Sally, to bring visiting scholars to campus.
