MATERIALS SCIENCE EXPERT TO SPEAK AT IOWA STATE
AMES, Iowa -- Donald Paul, the Ernest Cockrell Sr. Chair in Engineering at the University of Texas, Austin, will talk about his research on polymer-layered silicate nanocomposites as part of the L. K. Doraiswamy Honor Lectureship at Iowa State University. Paul's lecture will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, in 171 Durham Hall. It is free and open to the public.
Instituted in honor of L. K. Doraiswamy, emeritus professor of chemical engineering at Iowa State, the lecture annually features a scientist or engineer of international prominence.
Polymer-layered silicate nanocomposites hold great potential for the fields of biomedicine and aerospace science, among others. Because of their unique structure, such nanocomposites possess desirable strength qualities without undesirable characteristics, such as increased mass. Additionally, these materials are usually transparent and remarkably resistant to temperature change, qualities highly valued by material scientists.
In addition to providing editorial services to four different publications, Paul has also written or co-written several different works on materials science.
